Are the trailers insured?
Yes, our trailers is comprehensively insured, however we self-insure our extra equipment.
What are the methods of payment for the rental services?
We only accept EFT into our account. Note that we require a lead time of at least 2 days to prepare the trailer and all the extras you would like to rent from us.
How do I rent a trailer?
You can rent a trailer by simply clicking on the home button in the menu then search for the dates you require. Once you have reserved your trailer and extras online, we will contact you to confirm your reservation.
Can I change the dates after the reservation?
Yes. If you would like to change or cancel (cancellation policy applies) your confirmed booking of a trailer and extras, please reach us by contacts provided in the Contacts page.
Should you wish to make use of this option to change your confirmed booking, then a R500 admin fee will be levied to rearrange your booking.
What is your Cancellation Policy?
Our cancellation Policy is as follows:
- Greater than 30 days before Pick-up date: 75% Refund of your booking fee.
- Between 14 and 29 days before Pick-up date: 50% Refund of your booking fee.
- Between 7 and 13 days before Pick-up date: 15% Refund of your booking fee.
- Less than 7 days before Pick-up date: 0% Refund of your booking fee.
Booking fee is your total trailer and extras booking fee, which excludes your R3500 security/insurance/breakage deposit which is 100% refundable in the event of a cancellation.
Where can I collect the trailer from and where should I return it?
You can take the trailer at the address provided on our Contact Us page. The trailer has to be returned to us at the same location at the agreed date and time. Late returns will carry penalties.
What should I do, if the trailer breaks down?
If the trailer breaks down, please call us immediately at +27818862848.
Do you deliver trailers?
No, we do not deliver or collect trailers. You have to collect and deliver the trailer and equipment to us on the stipulated dates and times as per your rental booking,

How is the rental amount calculated?
We charge on a per day and hour basis.
Let’s say that you’ve chosen those pickup & return dates and times:
Pick-up Date & Time: 21/08/2020 9:00 AM
Return Date & Time: 23/08/2020 3:00 PM
Then final item & extra prices for that period of time will be calculated in this way:
The price will be calculated for 2 Day(s) and 6 Hour(s) by using trailer’s & extra’s daily price data for 2 days + 6 hours by using trailer’s & extra’s hourly price data.
What are the minimum and maximum rental periods?
Minimum rental period is 2 days during normal periods. Other minimum periods apply during high and peak seasons. We do not have a maximum rental period.
What type of drivers license do I require?
Legally you require a EB or better drivers license to tow our Wildebeest Executive trailer and a B or better license to tow our Echo 3 trailer.
What is weight distribution and how should I load the trailer?
Weight distribution is the apportioning of weight within a vehicle, especially cars, trailers, caravans etc. Typically, it is written in the form x/y, where x is the percentage of weight in the front, and y is the percentage in the back.
We recommend a typical weight distribution of 60/40 %.

Tow hitch Weight: Is the weight you place on your tow bar and should typically be between 50 to 100 kg. See your vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.
At what speed should I be towing?
We recommend a towing speed of between 90 and 110 km/h, depending on traffic laws and road conditions.
Yes, any fool can tow a fully loaded trailer at 180 km/h but that is not the problem. The problem is stopping at that speed and the ability to correct if something should go wrong.
What documents do I need to rent a trailer from Rent A 4x4 Trailer?
- Clear colour copy of the front and back of your ID Card or, clear colour copy of your ID document.
- Clear colour copy of the front and back of your Driver’s License.
- Proof of Banking Details for Refund (First page of Original Bank Statement, Stamped by the Bank)
- Copy of your tow vehicle’s registration papers.
- Proof of address not older than 1 month.
- Signed Rental Agreement.
Upon collection, please bring your original ID Card/Document, Driver’s License and Vehicle Registration paper along for verification purposes.
To which countries may I travel with your trailers?
You can travel to most SADC countries with the except of the following countries: Kenya, Angola, Uganda, Tanzania, or Zambia.
Please confirm with us which countries are allowed before making your booking.
Note that a fee of R500 will be levied for Cross Border documentation preparation – please ensure you select this Optional Extra during the Booking process!
When will I get my deposit back?
We will pay your deposit back within 7 business days, minus any losses or damage, and provided an insurance claim is not needed.

How many trailers do you have?

What are the deposit requirements?
We require a basic insurance deposit of R3500 per trip, although we reserve the right to increase this amount for longer trips and to so called high risk areas as defined per our insurance company.
Can I bring the trailer back dirty?
No, definitely not. We provide you with a clean and sanitized trailer, so if you give it back to us in any other condition than what we provided you with, we will charge you R750 to clean the trailer.
